A new era of light-duty trailering has begun – with Ford unveiling its 2021 F-150 to the commercial market. Now anchored by an exclusive PowerBoost hybrid engine suite (the first of its kind for the F-Series), this platform will redefine BC payloads.
Beneath the hood of the new F-150 roars a 3.5L PowerBoost V6. This block – which is crafted from aluminum to assure improved heat conduction – promises exceptional strength, generating up to 430 HP (at 6,000 RPMs) and 570 lb.-ft of torque (at 3,000 RPMs). Roller finger followers enhance valve performance, while an electronic 10-speed transmission affords precise gear transitions.
The true value of this suite, however, is its full-hybrid design – which fuses the V6 with a complementary 35-kilowatt electric motor and a 1.5-KwH battery. These utilize regenerative braking functionality to convert otherwise wasted energy into power, funnelling it directly into the block to lessen resource consumption. Improved economy is assured and, despite its rugged frame (which can accommodate 12,700 pounds of trailering), the 2021 F-150 promises a drive-range of 1,110-kms per full tank.
