The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica features three new safety features, including parallel and perpendicular park assist. The system detects obstacles and automatically steers the vehicle into parking spaces. The system works by using cameras mounted on the front of the vehicle to detect objects in front of it. When the driver activates parallel park assist, the system will scan both sides of the vehicle for an open space large enough for the vehicle to fit in. When a suitable space is detected, the driver can select forward or reverse on the touchscreen console to move into the spot. When the driver selects parallel park assist, the system scans for an available parking space and steers the vehicle into it. When the driver selects perpendicular park assist, the system scans for a perpendicular parking space and steers the vehicle into it. To use either feature, drivers must first activate their turn signals and then engage park assist by pressing a button on the end of their cruise control lever. The system will guide them through the process of parallel or perpendicular parking with visual cues on the instrument panel and voice prompts telling them when to begin backing up, when to stop, and when to complete their maneuver.
