2022 Ford Escape: First Look

Jul 19,2022

The all-new Ford Escape 2022 has little to no changes compared to the Ford Escape 2022. However, the latest Ford Escape 2022 is bigger, bolder, and packed with more standard features and advanced technology, just like the Ford Escape 2021. The 2022 Ford Escape should be at the top of your list if you're in the market for a new SUV. Here's everything you need to know about the brand-new Ford Escape.

What’s New for 2022?

The new generation of Ford’s popular Escape crossover SUV entered its model year in 2021 with few changes. And that’s the case again for the 2022 version, as three new exterior colors join the options sheet—Atlas Blue, Flight Blue, and Iced Blue—and that’s it for new features. That’s not necessarily bad, as the current model is still relatively new and offers plenty of features and capabilities that buyers in this competitive class will surely appreciate.

The standard engine is a capable turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder, but a more powerful turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is also available, and both come with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A hybrid powertrain is also offered, and it features an electric motor paired with the 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine.

All versions provide passenger and cargo space, and the SE Sport Appearance package gives the Escape a more athletic look inside and out. Safety is always a priority in any Ford vehicle, and the Escape comes standard with automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, and a rearview camera. With so much to offer, it’s no wonder the Escape remains one of the most popular choices in the compact SUV class.

Pros

The all-new 2022 Ford Escape gives customers plenty to get excited about. The unassuming styling conceals a wealth of cutting-edge technology, and the available powertrains provide something for everyone.

Driver-assistance features are standard, making the Escape one of the safest vehicles on the road. And the spacious interior ensures that passengers will always be comfortable. In short, the all-new Escape has everything you could want in a vehicle – and then some. So if you’re in the market for a new SUV, check out the all-new Ford Escape.

Cons

The 2022 Ford Escape has a lot to offer drivers, but there are some drawbacks to keep in mind. One of the biggest downfalls is that entry-level models are very basic and unrefined. The base engine is also quite underpowered, so it’s not great for long road trips or heavy traffic. Another issue is that the hybrid powertrains come with hefty price hikes.

So, if you’re looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle, you might have to pay more than you originally planned. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons, but it’s important to be aware of all aspects of the vehicle before making your final decision.

Performance, Engine, and Transmission

The 2022 Escape comes with a wide range of powertrain options. The base engine is a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder that makes181 horsepower. It can be had with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. If you need more power, two optional engines are a 250-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter  and a plug-in hybrid powertrain of up to 209 horsepower. All three engines are paired with an automatic transmission (eight-speed).

Fuel Economy

This model has an EPA-estimated 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The SE Sport Hybrid trim comes with a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery pack. The trim has an estimated 44 mpg inside the city and 37 mpg while on the highway. For those who want more power, the Titanium trim comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 250 horsepower. This trim has an EPA-estimated 23 mpg in the city and 32 on the highway.

Interior

The Escape’s cabin is roomy and comfortable, with plenty of head- and legroom in both the front and rear seats. The base trim level comes with cloth upholstery with a nice texture, while higher trims get either simulated or real leather. The seats are supportive and spacious, while even the rear seats offer good head- and knee room. Our only issue with the interior is that some hard plastic surfaces look and feel budget-grade, but the Escape does provide a good amount of small-item storage space throughout the cabin, including a large center console bin, door pockets, and seatback pockets. Cargo space could have been better, especially when all the seats are in use.

Exterior

One look at the 2022 Ford Escape, and you’ll immediately notice that the overall design is angular and aggressive, with a wide stance and muscular proportions. The front end is dominated by a large chrome grille flanked by slim LED headlights. From the side, the roofline slopes downward toward the rear, giving the Escape a sporty look. And out back, LED taillights wrap around from the sides to meet in the center of the tailgate. Overall, the new Escape has a look that’s sure to turn heads on any road.

Infotainment System

The Ford Escape comprises an impressive array of standard features, including automatic LED headlights, push-button start, SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, and pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking. And that’s just scratching the surface. Optional features include a panoramic sunroof, hands-free liftgate, wireless charging pad, navigation system, and much more. No matter your needs, there’s a good chance that the Ford Escape has you covered.

The all-new 2022 Ford Escape is a striking vehicle that will turn heads on the road. It features an updated design, impressive performance specs, and advanced safety features. This SUV is perfect for anyone who wants a stylish and practical vehicle that can handle any terrain or driving situation.
