The 2023 Ford Escape is available with a diverse lineup of power-trains, beginning with a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-three-cylinder engine that produces 181 horsepower and may be paired with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Ford offers two different hybrid versions of the Escape, one of which is a plug-in hybrid, in order to compete with hybrid versions of the Toyota RAV4 Prime and the Honda CR-V. The power-trains in these hybrid versions consist of a 2.5-liter inline-four engine and two electric motors, which together produce 210 horsepower.
Although it was somewhat unrefined and grumbling, the standard turbo-three gas engine offers decent acceleration and was able to propel an all-wheel-drive Escape SE to 60 miles per hour in 7.7 seconds; the hybrid, plug-in model achieved an identical result. The smart decision was to upgrade to the 250-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, which was potent enough to hit the 60 mph mark in 5.7 seconds.
Both of the gasoline engines are mated to an automatic transmission that has eight speeds, while the hybrids use a transmission that has a constantly variable ratio.
