The 270-horsepower turbo-four engine and 10-speed automatic transmission are standard across the 2023 Ford Ranger lineup. Even when you have a full freight in the back, the engine is able to handle everything and will not leave you desiring a bit of extra verve. The acceleration is decent, although it is hindered by the transmission’s tendency for delayed downshifts. In general, the 2023 Ford Ranger offers an adequate power-train.
The 2023 Ford Ranger earns respectable gas mileage for a vehicle in its class as a compact pickup truck. The EPA estimates that the Ranger’s all-wheel drive models will get a city fuel economy of 20 to 21 mpg and a highway fuel economy of 26 mpg. Four-wheel drive versions, along with the off-road Tremor package receive a 19 miles-per-gallon rating for both city and highway driving. The four-wheel drive models without the Tremor package, meanwhile, fetch a 20 and 24 mpg rating for inter-city and highway driving respectively.
The Ranger drives as well as one would expect a compact pickup truck with a body-on-frame design to. While the vehicle offers decent control and sense of safety while on the road, it can sometimes feel too sloppy and light. Although its ride quality is satisfactory in most respects, the Ranger has been criticized by some for being too bouncy and unsettled.
