3 Ways to Get Your Car Ready for Winters in Oliver

October 12,2022

The presence of snow and ice on the road can make winter driving a hazardous business. Hence, it is important that your vehicle is up to this challenge. Here is how you can get your car ready for when the mercury decides to drop:
While all-season tires can be used during the winter, they may hamper your car’s efficiency and overall performance. This is because, under low or dropping temperatures, the rubber compounds present in non-winter tires start hardening and impair the tires’ ability to grip the road.
On the other hand, winter tires contain special compounds that keep them from hardening under during the cold. As a result, you enjoy better traction in snow, slush, ice, or even dry pavements.
Winter wipers contain rubber that prevents ice from accumulating around the blades. However, make sure to remove these wipers at the beginning of spring: since winter wipers are heavier than normal ones, keeping them on all year round increases pressure on the wiper motor.
Before setting off on a trip, prepare a winter safety kit. Keep some common equipment and tools in your vehicle in case of emergencies. These items include a pack of matches, a first aid kit, flares, ice scraper, flashlights and batteries, warm clothing, non-perishable beverage and food items, a shovel and bag of sand, jumper cables, an extra cellphone, extra antifreeze, and a car tool kit.
Driving in winters poses unique safety and other challenges. To see if your Ford is up for those challenges, please feel free to visit your nearest Ford dealership in Skaha and get your car examined and serviced.
