The fall season, with its falling leaves and Halloween festivities, is hard to beat. However, the arrival of fall also means that winter is right around the corner and will be accompanied by low temperatures, snowfall, and challenging driving conditions.
Winter can definitely be a lot of fun. However, if you have a Ford model that you would rather not take out during this period, you want to make sure it is ready to hit the ground running (literally) once the Celsius starts going back up. The below tips will help you store your Ford during the winters.
First up, you need to protect your oil and fuel. Not a lot of people know this, but gasoline is only good for about a month from the day it enters your tank. Unless properly treated, it will start losing its efficacy and, to prevent this from happening, add a fuel stabilizer to the tank and keep the gasoline from condensing. This is also true for oil: if you plan to tuck your Ford away for the winters, we recommend getting your oil changed beforehand.
Winter is a lengthy affair in Alberta, and the frosty temperatures coupled with low usage can accelerate a vehicle’s battery drainage or even damage the casing. Before placing your car in storage, consider adding battery tenders so that it is ready for use, come the spring. Alternatively, you could disconnect the battery and store it indoors.
